In a sad day for Hamilton Rugby, the pub they frequent, two suburbs away in Georgetown will be closing its doors to them as of next year. The Sunnyside Tavern has reportedly gone into liquidation due to the fact that to many foreigners have been imported into australia under the agreement the pub had with the club.
The club has shunned the Croation Sports Club and elected to go one suburb further to Waratah Rugby Club. They have set up an agreement to drink only in the squash courts out the back where a portable bar will be set up. They will be allowed in the public bar after 730 each game day when management realises that no one from the Waratah team is actually there drinking at the club that pays them.
The green hornet implores the Hawks to return the money the imports took as most of them have proven to be hoaxes anyway(Except maybe Va, who only has one good knee but plays with three.) and move to Learmouth Park, which is actually in Hamilton. Hopefully this can save Georgetowns Sunnyside Tav and it might even help Wickham's hamilton hawks

Does that mean the other useless big lump McBean is heading to the Hawks next season also? Maybe they will let him in after the Hawks curfew of 7.30 at the Tahs club, otherwise he may be heading out to Beaches for Kevins Yum Cha at the Sporty's with all the other Red renegades next year if the rumour mill is correct. If it wasn't for Slob's , Lemon's & the Whale with the token Hawk Hainsworth that pub wuld have died years ago!
ReplyDeleteDoes the embargo on Rugby types at the Sunnyside Up Tavern also include the enigmatic Cameron Hainsworth? He is green thru and thru but is known to lower his standards and socialise with the Hawks, as a last resort.
ReplyDeleteIve heard the mary ellen will send the sponsorship dollars to the hawks as they are sick of paying good money to a club who choose to drink at the zoo and there own shitty little clubhouse at their gorund. The new kiwi import to the greens wanted to be a hawk but the dollers from the sunny have dried up.
ReplyDeleteImports at this stage of the season. Gees the slime must be anxious. What about the bloke in 3's whos trained all year for that spot only to be shifted polietly sideways by mr nz. Probably not qualified for the semi's anyway. Is there not a cut off date to be signed on and played by ??
ReplyDeleteGreens are very astute in these areas & all was sorted out months ago, injuries in the top grades have made the selection possible & i dare say the Hawks will see this guys input off the bench in the top grades at some stage, so qualification is no issue. Most of the Hawks are spotted at the Mary's or other Merewether drinking holes so their transition won't be very hard. It's about time for a change anyway going on their history of transience with pubs, should be a good battle this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIs this the start of a merger between Waratah and Hamilton, Why else would hamilton drink in the squash courts at teh rugby club, shorley there would be other pubs in hamilton/town that would be better options. It would be a good marrige Waratahs junior base, rugby club with hamiltons senior strength. Maybee East could then rejoin and play out of passmore oval??
ReplyDeletehavent the slime moved from the zoo to the marys then the zoo lake taupo? hawks have been at sunnyside since 2001. hardly transient.
ReplyDeleteFrom the Wetlands to West End Hotel to Mayfield Hotel to the Commonwealth to the Bennett to the Lass O'Gowrie & finally The Sunny the Hawks will go anywhere so off you go again Anonymous at least the Greens stay in their own suburb. can't wait for you reply.
ReplyDeletethanks for the history lesson taupo. your in-depth knowledge of the hawks shows your infinite wisdom only learnt from years around the traps indicating that you are further on in your years and really shouldn't be concerned with where young rugby players drink.
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show your lack of depth & knowledge which is mirrored by your club anonymous, to go forward you must understand your past! i think you brought it up re were players drink also so your history lesson is complete.
ReplyDeletei think the hawks next place to drink will be the greens clubhouse. im sure they will sponsor them. seeing as though you are a newcastle historian taupo, where have university called their local pub in the last few years? and i know they are gone from premier rugby but where did mayfield east rugby club end up before they were culled last year. school me.
ReplyDeleteVery good kids. Surfs up has probably given the best solution to all the problems Easts could definately play at Passmore, its more east than Hexham. maybe Hamilton could merge with Wanderers as they both have no suburbs.
ReplyDeleteSpare us all with that merger green hornet, Hamilton + Wanderers would be like merging North Korea with South Africa, a wannabe power with no depth other than Kim Ill Yung (aka Bubba) and an arrogant / stuck up nation who think there crap comes out gold...
ReplyDeleteHey don't forget Marcho as token Hawk at Sunnyside! Get a dog Ryno! Enjoy NZ, dont break a leg?
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Hawks could go back to their old Tea Totalling way's when they used to be known in local circles as the Rusty Bikes, a reference to their strong Catholic ties. This would eliminate any need for a licenced premises sponsor and have the good Lord keeping watch on their finances via the Sunday collection plate.
ReplyDeletejust need to be a bit careful with the collection plate, i mean if travis is around and all
ReplyDeletetravis, you mean the viking don't you.
ReplyDeleteIts not very nice to make disparaging remarks about someone under an anonymous alias. By questioning someone of upstanding character like travis in this way a big question mark falls over your character.
ReplyDeleteHornet, couldn't agree more , maybe one of the anonymous guys can use the handle " Migaloo"
ReplyDeletemaybe club bubba will open its doors on a regular basis ??
ReplyDeleteWell there certainly wouldn't have been many at the tah's night club after their 108 point drubbing. an awesome display by the minor premiers elect. going to be a great finals series.
ReplyDeletetalk about the greens goal kicker folding under pressure, missed the final goal to win the match by 15-20mtrs
ReplyDeleteIn relation to the article he still went back to merewether rather than Georgetown, the suburb he plays for.
